The cause of paint destruction

After the last coat of paint is applied, the curing phase of the still virgin vehicle paint begins. In this case, the volatile solvents leave behind microscopically small paint pores. This applies to the old nitro or 2K paints, as well as to the modern water-based paints and scratch-resistant paints. For example, the paint surface of new paints resembles a “mountain-and-valley” silhouette. The “valleys” represent the fine lacquer pores and are not visible to the naked eye. If you look at the paint surface under an electron microscope, the paint pores become visible.

“Do-it-yourself” against paint decay?

The numerous vehicle care products for home use are designed to be user-friendly for the end customer. Depending on the quality, the shelf life is more likely to be sought in the short to medium term (between 2 and 4 months). At best, the fine paint pores are coated with a glossy layer, but the paint decay cannot be stopped.
